Global war aside, this time of the year is beautiful.  Over the weekend, I was bike riding in western Pennsylvania along the Montour Trail. The Fall colors were vibrant.

Leaves are changing.  Nights are crisp.  Plants & trees are falling asleep.

Fall turning into Winter making way for Spring is a perfect metaphor for our hope in Christ.  The old must die for the new to be born again.

Jesus says (John 12:24), “unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”  Right before this in John 11, Jesus says, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.”

For Jesus, the one who conquered the grave, death is a temporary event.

Just like Fall.

Just like falling asleep.

Let’s hold fast to the hope that this moment of incredible chaos and fear is also only a season.  It too will pass.  As it does, God is present with us every step of the way in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus says in John 16:33, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”  Lord Jesus, help us remember and be hopeful today.
