The GOAL of every Christian is to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and go make disciples. Here’s a simple list that moves everyone towards this goal.

  • Reading God’s Word with a renewed sense of expectation. Many read the Bible regularly to grow in knowledge or out of habit. These are good reasons, but they aren’t the best reason. The best reason is the realization that God is speaking directly to you through Scripture.
  • Praying more than “Thank You” or asking for help. Everyone prays – maybe grace before meals or right before bedtime. Half the class prays right after a pop-quiz is announced (help!). Prayer is a dialogue, which means listening is as vital as talking.
  • Serving the poor. In our “What have you done for me lately” world, many expect reciprocity for their generosity. Jesus calls us to give humbly & sacrificially to anyone in need.
  • Giving others authority in your life. This is a BIGGIE. Who, in their right mind, wants to allow others to speak into your life? Yet, the Christian life was always intended to be lived in relationship with others.
  • Making your faith in Jesus visible for all to see. In words & actions, our friends, family, neighbors, classmates, and coworkers must see that Jesus is our Lord.

These practices are not the goal; they are tools. We’re not trying to pray more, know more, or serve more. We want to model faith in Jesus, and help others discover & model faith. The best way to do this is in relationships with…

  1. Someone more mature in their faith, teaching you.
  2. Someone less mature in their faith, teaching them.

If you want to change the course & direction of your life for the better, allow another Christian to share their life with you. Then, share your life with others.
